DJI makes excellent products in all areas where it has its foot, and it has certainly made its mark in the field of action cameras before.  And now here’s the company’s second action camera, which is much more than a simple generational change, as it has taken on a completely different form, creating new opportunities with it.

DJI Osmo Action was essentially an opponent of GoPro’s simple Hero models, and now Action 2 has become a bit like picking out Session as its rival. We can talk about an amazingly compact solution, in which everything can be solved with high quality and flexibility with the modular design. On the modular line, by the way, Insta360 had a pretty good try before, but the One R was undeservedly neglected. Well, let's look at Action 2.

The name Osmo was cast by DJI, but it doesn't matter, we can still talk about a product blessed with an excellent stabilization system (RockSteady 2.0) that will try to meet the needs of many. The novelty uses a 12-megapixel sensor (1 / 1.7-inch) that will be able to record videos in 4K Ultra HD quality (the Hero10 also supports 5.3K).

Higher resolutions are not supported in Action 2, but there are also 120 FPS recording options for 4K, so you can hardly be critical of that.  A bitrate of 130 Mbps is the ceiling for recordings, while the GoPro has set an upper limit of 100 Mbps.

The product's lens system has a 155-degree viewing angle (F / 2.8), so you'll see everything that happens in front of it.  And it can even be fixed on a magnet, and what's more, DJI actually considers magnetic fixation to be a priority here.  This will make it easy and quick to snap the device into different places, even wearing an action camera without the use of any straps.

The structure has been given a 1.76-inch AMOLED display, which will be able to handle the settings of the device well, but otherwise it will be possible to control this product from a mobile phone.  The screen has been protected by Gorilla Glass to prevent trouble in the field.  Utilizing the modular design, another display will be added to Action 2 that looks ahead, bringing together a good configuration for vloggers as well.

Thanks to the extremely effective stabilization, the device will be able to capture amazingly smooth videos in any situation.  With HorizonSteady, the structure will aim for horizontal shots in all situations.  The company has retained all previous recording modes, so there will be a timelapse, live broadcast, and a slow motion option, among other things.  The latter can be done at up to 240 FPS at standard Full HD resolution - the Hero10 is capable of 2.7K at the same tempo.

Sound can be recorded in high quality on the device, if not necessarily that would otherwise be its primary function.  The DJI has built a four-microphone “ matrix stereo” system into the camera, which will also be able to be used for voice control, which has become more advanced than before.  The application of DJI Mimo will be able to provide the camera with better video editing options than before, and will be able to intelligently cut the material itself.

The device can be used without a microSD card, which can come in handy if, for example, a person forgets to take a card with them or wants to record while saving images from the card to external media.  This is not the case with GoProk, although it should be added that we can only talk about 32 GB here, which does not provide much room for maneuver.
