Categorie    Schaatsenmaker
Naam    Lantinga, Bonne Ottes
Geboren    ? IJlst 28-3-1847

Bonne Lantinga is a son of the ship's carpenter Otte Lantinga in IJlst. Bonne becomes a blacksmith. He is a blacksmith's apprentice in Heeg (1865-1866), in Sneek (1867), in Bolsward (1868), in Easterlittens at DG Minkema (1869), in IJlst (1870) and in Sneek (1871).
In the course of 1871 he establishes himself as a blacksmith at the String in Wergea. He probably already learned to forge skates as an apprentice.
The first advertisement in which skates by Lantinga are mentioned is from the hardware store Gebr. Reynders from Leeuwarden in the Leeuwarder Courant of 11 December 1879.
From 1881 he also advertises his own skates. In the Leeuwarder Courant of 27 January 1881 he competes with skate makers who praise their award-winning skates: 'Skates. No bluff with awards like others, but the really best and also most beautiful skates are made by B. Lantinga, skate smith in Warga. NB My skates are provided with the letters B L. ' In January 1887, Lantinga's skates cost ƒ 2.50 per pair.

On 20 January 1888 he announces in the Leeuwarder Courant that he will henceforth provide his skates with his name 'B. Lantinga Warga', because other skates are also sold under the name 'Wargaster'.

In 1881 Lantinga wrote in advertisements with a smirk about skate makers who bluffed with awards, in 1889 his skates were also awarded a gold medal at the International Sports Exhibition in Cologne and he himself also mentioned this award in advertisements.

He also sold his skates outside Friesland, as evidenced by an advertisement on 4 December 1890 in the Provinciale Groninger Courant , in which J. Geertsema offered 'Friesche Schaatsen van BO Lantinga' for sale. On 3, 6, 9 and 13 January 1897 there were advertisements in the Leerdamsche Courant in which 'skates by BO Lantinga in Warga' were offered. On 15 December 1899 Lantinga praised a new model in the Leeuwarder Courant : 'extra beautiful, which can never snag or tear clothes, eminently suitable for ladies, in prices starting from ƒ 2.50'. This is probably the safety skate with wooden curl. It is striking that his competitor Gerben Pool advertised this model in the Leeuwarder Courant on 11 December of that year . Around 1900, Bonne Lantinga established himself in the Kerkbuurt next to the inn 's Lands Welvaren. In 1912, his son Luitzen Lantinga took over the business.
